Sway Calloway-Cosigned DJ Touré Protege Jwalt
Jwalt’s artistry has taken him from historic California venues to the airwaves of XM Radio in New York and the African coast of Ghana, performing music and spoken word. At only seventeen, his career has already been years in the making since starting his craft at age eleven in his hometown of Oakland...the inspiration behind his socially conscience verses and celebrated hyphy tracks like “Oh Man” and “We Ridin.”
Now with producer/DJ Touré in his corner, Jwalt is evolving his youthful passion for hip-hop into a vibrant adult career as he begins a series of powerful releases that showcase the talent that has already wowed industry veterans from Mistah F.A.B. to Sway Calloway. His first drop, the colorful video for single "THE KID," signifies his arrival as an artist who started young, but strong, and is here to stay.
Even before preparing to release "THE KID," 2019 was set to be a game-changing year for the poet and rapper. In January, Jwalt joined E-40, Mistah F.A.B., P-Lo, Saweetie, Too $hort and MC Hammer to celebrate Stephen Curry's decade with the Warriors in an epic showcase at the historic Fox Theater. Later this year he rocked the legendary HieroDay stage and followed that up with a performance at the first edition of Sway Fest, a block party in Downtown Oakland curated by Sway Calloway with Sheila E., G-Eazy, Kamaiyah, Mistah F.A.B. and Rexx Life Raj. Breaking into the Bay Area rap scene, a culture known for its originality and substance, is no easy feat. But with the ambitious path Jwalt has already taken and the artistic power supporting his moves, there's no doubt he is on his way.
